"The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
Everyone likes to receive a gift. But the greatest gift anyone can receive is eternal life. No amount of money can buy it. It is a gift from God. It is because of Jesus' bleeding and dying in our place that we can have this gift.
All who come to God in true repentance for sin and accept Jesus Christ as their own personal Savior will receive this gift of eternal life. He said: "He that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out."
There are many people who would try to work their way into heaven; in fact, there are some who are trying to do that very thing, but no works are good enough. It is not what we do but what Christ Jesus has done that makes eternal life possible.
It is only at the cross that we can find the help we need. The blood of Jesus shed there can wash away every stain of sin and give us eternal life and the true purpose for living.
Not by works can I see God;
Christ the way before me trod.
Eternal life: my gift from Him
Because of Heaven's priceless gem.
